A simple transfer means the plainest send of the network's own asset: one payment, no smart-contract calls, no token swaps. Those cost more, everywhere.
Bitcoin fees are read live from mempool.space (the half-hour fee estimate, priced for a typical 140 vB transfer). Ethereum and Base gas prices are read live from public RPC nodes and priced for a plain 21,000 gas transfer. Dollar conversions use live CoinGecko prices, shown in US and Canadian dollars.
Solana, the XRP Ledger and Stellar are shown as fixed climates rather than measured weather: their base fees are protocol constants or near-constants (a Solana signature costs 5,000 lamports; an XRPL transaction destroys 0.00001 XRP; a Stellar operation costs 0.00001 XLM), each a tiny fraction of a cent at any plausible price. Congestion pricing exists on Solana for hot spots, which is footnoted, not forecast.
The weather bands are editorial thresholds, published so you can argue with them: Bitcoin reads clear under 5 sat/vB, breezy to 20, busy to 80, stormy above; Ethereum reads clear under 1 gwei, breezy to 5, busy to 25, stormy above. They describe fee pressure, not quality: a stormy network is a busy network, and a clear one may simply be quiet.
Price my transfer uses the same live reads as the board. Bitcoin is the current half-hour fee estimate times a typical 140 vB transfer, and a plain send is the only row Bitcoin gets: the base layer has no native token transfers or swaps, so those rows say "not applicable" rather than inventing a number. Ethereum and Base multiply the live gas price by standard gas budgets: 21,000 gas for a plain send, about 65,000 for an ERC-20 token transfer, and about 180,000 for a typical swap, per the ethereum.org gas documentation (real contracts vary; these are representative budgets). Solana is priced at its 5,000 lamport signature fee; the XRP Ledger and Stellar rows are priced for plain sends only, as the calculator states. Rows sort cheapest first and each shows the fee as a share of the amount entered, in the currency you pick. Gas budgets last reviewed July 2026.
Compared to the recent past draws each floating network's fee path as a small sparkline. Bitcoin gets a true 24 hour series from mempool.space's block fee-rate history (the median rate per block). Ethereum and Base come from eth_feeHistory base-fee readings on the same public RPC nodes, and those nodes only serve fee history for roughly their last thousand blocks without an archive token: about three and a half hours of Ethereum and about half an hour of Base. Each card states the window it actually shows rather than claiming a day it cannot see. "Quieter" or "busier" compares the newest reading with the window's median. Each sparkline is drawn once when its data arrives; it does not animate, and if a history feed is unreachable the card says so instead of guessing.
Venue withdrawal fees are a separate, often larger cost. When crypto leaves an exchange or other custodial venue, the venue charges its own withdrawal fee on top of, and frequently well above, the network fee this page measures. Those fees are set by each venue, differ by asset and by network, and are published on each venue's own fee schedule. This page prices only the network's part; the venue's part is whatever its published fee page says on the day you withdraw.
What this omits: venue withdrawal fees (described above, never priced here), priority tips beyond the base estimates, and contract-specific gas variation. Figures last reviewed July 2026.
